Polish PM Reaffirms US Alliance, Rejects Role as ‘Vassal’

(MENAFN) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday reiterated Warsaw’s loyalty to the United States while making clear that Poland will not act as “a vassal” to any nation. His remarks followed the announcement that Poland would not join President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace initiative.

“Poland was, is, and will be a loyal, reliable, and predictable ally of the United States,” Tusk told reporters after a National Security Council meeting, according to reports.

He emphasized that while Poland remains a faithful partner, it will not subordinate itself to any country. “But in this alliance, Poland is not and will not be—as long as I am prime minister—a vassal. We will be a faithful ally, but we will not be a vassal in relations with any country in the world,” he said.

Tusk added that alliances cannot function through “someone constantly nodding and trying to gain something through flattery.”

The Board of Peace was established as part of international efforts to support a peaceful resolution in the Gaza Strip. On January 22, representatives from 19 countries signed the charter for the initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with additional states reportedly joining since then.

The first leader-level meeting is scheduled for February 19 in Washington, DC, with Gaza’s reconstruction and fundraising expected to be the main focus. It remains uncertain whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attend.
